Getting Started

Q: Who do you work with and what issues do you treat?

We work with adult couples and individuals.

For couples, we help with:

  • communication problems and recurring conflict

  • emotional distance or feeling disconnected

  • sexual or intimacy difficulties

  • infidelity, broken trust, or affair recovery

  • parenting stress, becoming new parents, and blended family challenges

  • major life changes, such as moving, career shifts, illness, or loss

  • grief or trauma that affects the relationship

  • premarital counseling and preparation for major relationship milestones

For individuals, we help with:

  • anxiety, depression, burnout, stress, or overwhelm

  • trauma history, grief, and spiritual or religious trauma

  • identity questions and self-esteem concerns

  • perfectionism, people-pleasing, and difficulty setting boundaries

  • struggles with intimacy, connection, or relational patterns

  • attachment concerns and emotional regulation

  • personal growth, healing, and understanding how past experiences shape current relationships

If you’re not sure whether your concerns align with what we do, you can schedule a free 15-minute consult call to talk with a therapist and get guidance on next steps.

Q: What happens in the first session?

If you’re coming in for couples therapy, we begin by understanding what brings you in, your current concerns, what you hope to get out of therapy, and your relationship dynamics. If you’re coming as an individual, we focus on your personal history, your concerns, and what you want to work on. The first session sets the foundation for the direction of your work.

Q: How often should we schedule sessions?

We typically recommend weekly sessions at the beginning to help you build momentum. Once you build momentum, many couples or individuals move to biweekly or monthly check-ins, depending on what works for you.

Payment, Insurance, and Fees

Q: Do you accept insurance?

We are considered an out-of-network provider. We can issue receipts for insurance reimbursement, also called superbills, that you can submit to your insurance provider.

Q: Do you offer sliding scale or reduced fee sessions?

We do offer a limited number of sliding-scale spots reserved for clients with financial need.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged for the session.

What Therapy Feels Like

Q: What can I expect emotionally from starting therapy?

Therapy can bring up a mix of feelings. You may feel relief, discomfort, hope, or uncertainty, especially in the beginning. This is normal. Whether you come as a couple or an individual, therapy gives you space to slow down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and work in a more intentional way.

Q: How long will it take before we see results?

Progress varies. Many couples and individuals begin to notice small shifts in communication, insight, and emotional awareness within the first several sessions. Results depend on consistency, engagement, and how much work happens between sessions.

Why Choose Austin Relational Wellness

Q: What makes your approach different from other therapists?

We use evidence-based methods and tailor our work to your goals rather than using a one-size-fits-all model. Our therapists view relationships through an attachment-based lens, meaning we pay attention to how your early and current relationships shape the way you respond to stress, conflict, and closeness.

For couples, we focus on understanding your dynamics and conflict cycle, building emotional safety, repairing trust, and strengthening connection. We help you understand the story underneath your reactions and the emotional needs driving your patterns. Practical, skills-focused tools help you notice what triggers escalation, communicate more clearly, respond instead of react, and repair faster when things get tense. Over time, couples strengthen trust, rebuild connection, and create habits that support closeness, teamwork, and shared meaning.

For individuals, we treat concerns like anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma with a focus on clarity, deeper emotional understanding, and identifying patterns so you can respond to stress and difficulty in new ways. We also work with an understanding that relationships play a major role in your emotional life. We look at the patterns you learned growing up, the roles you take on with others, and the ways you show up in close relationships today. This gives you a clearer picture of why certain struggles keep repeating and how to change them in a lasting way.

Q: What if I want to do couples therapy but my partner is hesitant or unsure?

That’s okay. Many couples come in with ambivalence. Our couples therapists can help each partner explore their concerns safely. Couples therapy can still be effective, even if only one person is sure. You can request a call from a couples therapist to talk through any concerns and get guidance on how to move forward, or you can directly book a free 15-minute phone consult here.
